TCL L40FHDF12TA

lowest prices on led tvsI purchased this TV on sale in Dec. 2011 for under $300. It’s an updated model of  TCL L40FHDF11TA. It’s put in a master bedroom. I will rate each category in Amazon’s system of 1 to 5 stars. My ratings are relative to how this TV stacks up against other 40″ LCD TVs in its price range.

SETUP *** (3 stars)
For wall mount, you need a VESA 400x400mm TV mount. I used the glass stand. For those who are trying to fit it into a shelf, here are the dimensions with stand: 38.5″ x 27″ x 9″. The power cord does not have a power brick attached which is a plus. I’m using a Philips learning universal remote control which did find codes for this TV. Try ‘RCA’ if ‘TCL’ didn’t work for you. I suggest using an universal remote since it’s much easier to replace than to replace the original remote if you break it. I did a firmware update downloaded from TCL website to fix a problem of the “TV powering on unexpectedly.” It completed without a hitch. Make sure you follow the instructions and wait at least 10 seconds (I waited 30 seconds to be safe) after it says “Completed” before unplugging the USB cord (I connected my phone, but any FAT-formatted device will do.) I’m guessing this is where some people might have messed up and broke the TV. The newer TVs being shipped are updated with the new firmware. You don’t need to update if your ‘SW Version’ says V8-0RSC801-LF1V041.
Some remote codes gathered for reference:
DirecTV: 11447
Comcast: 11447
Dish Network: 503
AT&T U-Verse: 1000

LG Infinia 55LW5600 55-Inch Cinema 3D 1080p 120 Hz LED-LCD HDTV with Smart TV and Four Pairs of 3D Glasses Low Price Now!!

Summary – This is a good buy if you are looking for a LED Television with 3D and internet capability.

Background – This television is mounted on the provided stand and placed on top of a media chest. The television sits above the seated viewers. Replaces a 5 year old 40″ Sony Bravida LCD panel. Connected to a HD TiVo and a Sony Blu Ray.

Set-Up – Fast and easy. The manual is adequate, but not excellent. The “Pro” video set-up is a nice feature and gets the picture looking its best quickly. The HDMI cables come out of the back of the television at a right angle on the left side rear. Placement is not optimal since HDMI cables have a tendency to be stiff and sharp bends are not recommended. There is enough room to make the gentle bend and align the cables, but tie wraps are a must for more than one cable.

Stand – Basic. Swivels right to left, but a tilt feature should have been included. See comments about 3D for explanation. A cable management slot on the stand would also have been nice to clean-up the cables for those who are not wall mounting.

Picture – Sharp and clear. No motion artifacts. Superior to the Sony it replaces, but this was expected due to the technology improvements since the purchase of the Sony. Read more…

LG 42LV4400 42-Inch 1080p 120Hz LED-LCD HDTV Low Price Now!!

The LG 42LV4400 LED HDTV performs well overall, but lacks some important features you may see in competing televisions.

==Menu==
The menu is the same one LG has been using for a few years now. Pushing the “home” button brings up selections for changing picture/audio/parental/time/channel settings etc. These sub-menus are easy to navigate thanks to pictures and large text. While the organization of the menus are great, the breadth of the options available is disappointing.

==Picture==
The picture on most LCD’s is rather good these days. The 42LV4400 ranks right up there with any mid-range HDTV. The blacks could be much better, but with some good tweaking in the regular menu settings, you can achieve fairly decent color accuracy and ‘pop’ (the sensation of depth and realism). As with most LCD’s, the brightness is more than abundant, making it a good TV for any room. It also has a matte finish, which makes it difficult to see reflections.

==Aesthetics==
The bezel of the TV is 1″ on top and sides but almost 3″ on the bottom. The bezel and stand are a high-gloss black with very simple contours and slightly rounded edges. Overall, it looks plain but also attractively understated. It would be a good choice for a professional environment as well as a home. Read more…

Panasonic VIERA TC-P42S30 42-Inch 1080p Plasma HDTV

If you read the 3 star product review, you might think twice. This individual actually sounds convincing. That is unless you’ve done your homework. I’d like to clarify a few incorrect points that have been made.
- Fast switching phosphors are used in all Full-HD VIERA models for 2011. By reformulating the phosphor materials, afterglow has been minimized and luminous efficiency has been increased. This enables crisp, clear rendering of motion images. A level of efficiency that exceeds our 2010 panels also increases picture quality while lowering power consumption.

Panasonic VIERA TC-P50GT30 50-Inch 1080p 3D Plasma HDTV

There is a lot to like about this TV. It has nice aesthetics. There are plenty of inputs and connectivity. Unfortunately there are some things that are not so great and one that is a deal breaker for me.

The over-all design and build is solid. Some TVs have a weak and even flimsy feel to them, but not this Panasonic.

The screen is very nice and coated in such a way that it is not too reflective.
The colors are rich and blacks are impressive, too.

There are plenty of display modes to switch between depending on your viewing habits and the content you are viewing. These settings are remembered per input, so, for example, you can have different settings for the Blu-ray player on HDMI 1, and the Wii game console on component input. The TV will change the settings to your preferences based on the input selected.

The menus are fairly straight-forward and easy to navigate. I like the fact that the menus are responsive and quick. I hate the Sony menus that take a second or two to respond.

The remote is not my favorite. This is really a gripe about the design of two Panasonic product remotes and not Read more…

Samsung LN40D630 40-Inch 1080p 120Hz LCD HDTV (Black)

I spent several months researching HDTV’s and finally landed on this model (Samsung LN40D630). I read a lot of the forums online (Cnet.com) about this particular unit, and I had several concerns that wound up being unfounded. I think the best way to approach this review is to do it by some of the major features, so here goes:

AutoMotion Plus (AMP):
I was initially concerned about the AutoMotion Plus feature. Many forum posts complained about it. I was afraid it would be too smooth (i.e too much “soap opera effect”). My concerns were unfounded. It’s easy to turn off this feature and it is easy to customize. I love that it is customizable by SOURCE (meaning the settings for your cable may be different for your DVD or BluRay player and the TV will save them as such). I like it very much for fast-motion (such as hockey games) and use the “clear setting” for just about everything else. The “demo mode” is a nice feature showing you the comparison of AMP on and off on a splitscreen. pretty cool.

Connectshare:
This is the feature that allows you to plug in a USB hard drive or thumb drive and play videos, music, or look at pictures. Read more…

Samsung UN60D8000 60-Inch 1080p 240Hz 3D LED HDTV (Silver)

This TV is as good as I had imagined it could be. It sets the bar for LCD TVs. I was concerned reading a lot of these reviews that claimed image issues on the borders but those have all seemed to be cleared up by now and any new model won’t have them. Any new review doesn’t have image issues and I have not had a single one, best black/white levels.

I, like many people, spent at least 4 months researching and reading reviews and comparing prices. This is my first LED/LCD TV and I couldn’t be happier. The price was excellent and it was delivered in two days unscathed. I was apprehensive after reading all the reviews regarding banding, however, I don’t notice anything of the sort. The blacks are super dark and the vibrant colors in standard mode are spectacular. Like other reviewers, I could take or leave the Samsung Apps, but you’re hopefully not buying this TV just for apps. The picture alone should be worth your money. If you’re looking for a competitively priced TV with unbelievable picture clarity and brightness, look no further.

Samsung UN55D7000 55-Inch 1080p 240Hz 3D LED HDTV (Silver)

I just got the TV in today, and from I experience so far is that this TV is amazing.

Black level is great! One of the best I seen so far.

Internet connection is great on the TV. Very useful for watching Netflix.
The qwerty remotes that came with my TV is very useful for web browsing, but don’t expect the browser to be like normal computer browser because it is very bad, slow, hard to navigate, and cumbersome.

For gaming, in my opinion, there is no lag if you turn off the picture enhancements options, and also turning on the game mode. I would say the lag on the TV would be probably somewhere between 30-50ms.

3D is great! I watched Shrek 3D, and it’s just stunning. A major improvement from last year model. I probably will buy Tron 3D, and see it on the TV soon. Read more…

LG 32LK450 32-Inch 1080p 60Hz LCD HDTV

The set up is fairly easy although I found the manual to be lacking in more detail, especially concerning a better explanation of some of the features.

The HD picture is just AWESOME and BEAUTIFUL. I did increase the “Sharpness” from 70 to about 90, but otherwise, left it on ‘AUTO’. I thought the screen might be a little too big for my computer but I was totally wrong….it is just great! I do not have a HDMI connector for the PC, only the RGB, but it is still just outstanding. Hook-up was a matter of just connecting the plugs.

The sound is better than good, but not great. I like it and it does seem to have some legitimate “surround sound” quality.

I was going to give it 4 stars because the non-HD channels are just good, and acceptable; but, the more I look at it, I realize it is actually pretty good. So, it warrants 5 stars.

I have seen a number of HDTVs, especially in showrooms, and this one seems to be better than those. It truly has an amazing picture with HD and I am very pleased with the purchase.

UPDATE 07/09/2011: After tinkering with the set for a month or so, I have been able to improve the sound considerably…..and it was pretty good to start with. A few tips: Under “Menu”, then “Audio:, make sure the Clear Voice II:ON 3 is turned on. I use “MUSIC” mode also, with treble of 82 and Bass of 70. These changes give me a really nice sound.

With the picture, it has improved also although it was astonishing before. I went to “ADVANCED” and you can mess with the categories to fine what suits you. I would make the sure the “Dynamic Color” is on “HIGH”. Enjoy!!!
